As I wait to find the women’s soccer seedings, we are left to discuss the men’s soccer national tournament seedings. Here are the seedings, and I have attached some of my opinions to the teams:
| Score | Win Exp | Excitement Rating | |
| #8 Baptist Bible College (PA) | 1 | 6.99% | 11.40 |
| #1 Moody Bible Institute | 6 | 93.01% | 11.40 |
| 22.80 |
*Sorry about switching the order of the teams. For some reason it messed this up during formatting.
Thoughts: Moody took the top spot after a dominate win over NIU, and looks to be the favorite to win it all again. The game predictor says this game will not be close. The computer sees this win for Moody as a lock.
| Score | Win Exp | Excitement Rating | |
| #4 Manhattan Christian College | 3 | 66.18% | 9.47 |
| #5 Ozark Christian College | 2 | 33.82% | 9.47 |
| 18.94 |
Thoughts: This game looks close, but the computer likes Manhattan to win. Ozark’s ability to keep up offensively with Manhattan is the big question in this one.
| Score | Win Exp | Excitement Rating | |
| #2 Northland International University | 5 | 90.07% | 11.35 |
| #7 Toccoa Falls College | 1 | 9.93% | 11.35 |
| 22.70 |
Thoughts: Northland stumbled after being number one all year in the power ratings, but don’t sleep on this team. The computer thinks this game is a lock for an NIU win.
| Score | Win Exp | Excitement Rating | |
| #3 Providence College | 2 | 54.15% | 9.20 |
| #6 Ohio Christian University | 2 | 45.85% | 9.20 |
| 18.40 |
Thoughts: If I was Providence, I would be terrified. Worse Ohio teams have done crazier things in this tournament. The computer looks a little conflicted on this. The score line looks like a tie, but Providence has the higher win expectancy… translation: UPSET ALERT.
Why is Ohio Christian overrated every year? They are somehow a 6th seed and even at that they are the only team predicted to have an upset as well? What damage has this team ever done at nationals in the past (besides becoming a red card generator last year)?
They have upset a two time national championship team (twice), they were a pk shootout away from upsetting the eventual national champion in the semi finals. They were a shaky call away from going to the finals last year…. I’m confused by your comment. Ohio is usually much stronger than they are this year, but you can’t win a national title every year. Ohio has been a very good team over the last few years, soccer is a random sport to predict.
I’m confused that ozark got a spot over Ohio? If they are such a threat why did they get a lower seed? Ozark has very little history at the national tournament.
Longo, longo, longo
Longo, longo, longo
(unless the teams are within 50 pts of each other, then its committee, committee, committee)
true, but then it was decided to stick to longo, longo, longo. No system is perfect, but its a fair argument to say that the top 2 was easy to figure out. After that, 3 through 7 were a toss up. As far as I am concerned as a coach, seeding means nothing to me. We know were gonna get a tough set of games either way.
yeah…but it looks better if you make it to the semi-final
Cole both 2009, and 2011 they were a PK away in shoot out,,, and “shaky” is a very polite way of putting it, cheated would be closer to the truth,, sad part is many of those players are gone with out the chance to set the record straight. this years team is not the same but I’m sure they will have the drive to make themself know.
irrationality is a short step away from ignorance.
Wow…. these are ridiculous. No body can tell me that Ozark is better than Ohio. Ozark beat Faith 2-0….. enough said right there. Why pit Ozark and Manhattan against each other when they have already played this year? Ohio/Manhattan would be a fantastic 4/5 game. Providence deserves a cake walk first round (Ozark), And honestly, Northland kinda got the shaft with the dark horse Toccoa. Northland should probably be playing Ozark and Providence, Toccoa. Does the committee even try to make it interesting anymore?
I agree that Ozark should be ranked lower as they are new, have shown nothing spectacular, and the region they are representing usually does not finish better than 7th place. I like Toccoa as a Dark horse as well. They beat Clearwater and have a good record of holding good teams to only a few goals. No way Northland scores 5 goals on them, though I think it will be a 2-1, 3-1 game
Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think a committee plays any role in seeding. My understanding is that the seeding is entirely based on the Longo rating system and has nothing to do with individual matchups or excitement concerns.
This is incorrect! The regional chairs decide seeding! Longo is considered but not the end all be all!
No, this is wrong. All based on longo like divison 1. Womens d2 has all regional chairs involved. Not men d2
Nate is right.
Why not publish the Longo then?
lol, its not hard to calculate. it’s on the NCCAA website. not really sure why this is such a big issue. The right teams are in Florida.
We know the right teams are there; it’s the shadiness and ambiguity of the seedings that has people talking.
Nobody is really talking. This post has had over 500 unique people look at it, and we have maybe 4 people complaining. There have been years that “everyone was talking” this is not one of those years.
where’s the “like” button??? haha. Guys, I promise you, we looked at every angle. We didn’t just do this hap hazardly. All the men on the call love the NCCAA. We love what it stands for. I promise you we all did what was right. Now more importantly, lets go down there and compete and fellowship. Thats what is so great about it.
ambiguity?? ALL that matters is that the right teams are there, after that seeding just decides who you lose to…Moody and Northland are clearly the best two teams hands down…by fighting over fifth and six seeds people are just wanting to pick their poison. In the end Midwest Region comes out on top!
plus, I think the committee got it right, the people at nationals deserve to be there..now it comes down to soccer, plain and simple…
“Ohio/Manhattan would be a fantastic 4/5 game”
3 person selection committee
2 of which coach at OCU and MCC
You figure out why that first round game didn’t happen.
I don’t think Ohio’s head coach said, “I know I could play Manhattan, but I would rather seed myself at a lower seed and play the team that beat Manhattan in the regular season.”
Ohio’s Coach should have said, “I got screwed” I think a rule should be that if you played a team in the regular season, you shouldn’t in the first round (like what the NCAA bball does). They have over 60 teams, we have 8. Should be avoidable……
He can’t be any more screwed than his team was in semi final was last year,, OCU knows screwed!
i think the best part about it is that you’ll never get over it. despite whatever happened last year, the refs didn’t put the ball in the net for northland and they for sure didn’t blast the ball over the goal two times in pk’s for ocu
The case for Ohio is not very solid… outside of using past performance.
It appears both coaches on the selection committee tried to assure themselves an opening round win. 2nd Rd match ups were probably a minor consideration.
This really makes no sense.
haha…wow. So we have no real moral values is what your saying? Well all I know is MCC is a 4 seed and Prov. is a #3….so ya, I was trying to assure an easy 1st round win….(sense the sarcasm?). As Mr. Cole said about your comment, this makes no sense.
Good news for Moody that Ohio is at six,,, a NIU/OCU semi final would be a long hard game despite the earlier season game between the two. I don’t see that as a fluke, just that OCU will come harder this time. Manhattan and Moody in the other semi final (I assume) most likely has Moody headed to the finals without too much concern, and they’ll meet a tired beat up team. Moody repeats this year I think.
Longo, longo, longo is dumb! what ever happened to common sense?!
Not a big fan of longo either, but we have no other option to ranking. NCCAA is not funded like the NAIA or NCAA to have a more complex ranking system. It takes man power. Plain and simple.
I think you guys did a good job. I actually think Longo (Which at times is sketchy) was pretty decent this year.
Moody doesn’t deserve to be in FL this year. Plain and simple.
What???
Moody doesn’t deserve to be there… why? They won the region. Northland also deserves to be there… though they got destroyed 5-0 at Maranatha last week, they are clearly the best team in the country who did not win their regional final. To be fair, they might by the best team in the country, period. The at-large bid could only have been won by NIU, hands down they deserve to be in Florida.
But to say that Moody doesn’t deserve to be there sounds like a typical Northland fan (or player, or previous player). Sure- assert your dominance all around the country, that’s all fine and well. But why tear down a good team? I can’t see what information, or what game THIS YEAR against MBI, you may be talking about to make a comment like that.
I’d be frustrated too, Pioneer Fan.
Pioneer fan, please stop embarrassing the real Pioneer fans with your ignorance.
interesting….
Nothing to back up your statement but “Plain and simple”?! Does “Plain and simple” take into account a 15-2 record over-all? An undefeated regional record? Five wins by shut out? One goal every three shots? A Mid-West Region Coach of the Year and his five All-Region Players (on of which is Player of the Year)? Two of the top ten scorers in the country? Or maybe you forgot about the five game win streak Moody has over the Pioneers and the 5-0 thumping the Pioneers received in the first half of the Regional Championship game a few days ago. I think most of us would like to hear your Plain and your Simple.
I don’t think Pioneer fan is really a northland fan, just someone wanting to stir up some controversy and conversation…..
maybe. it seems to be working.
I’m not sure if Moody deserves to be there, but they will get crushed in the semi-final game, and if they pull another lucky win then they don’t stand a chance in the finals match-up.
curious about which of moody’s previous wins were lucky? perhaps a 2-1 scoreline, but 5-0?
Moody played dirty that game and NIU was missing their key players that game. They pulled off a lucky win
You really don’t have much of an idea when it comes to soccer, do you? Both games this year were about as clean as it comes. Much respect between the players of these teams this year. As for missing key players, well, that’s why you need a team and not some key players. Soccerdad seems to be a good nickname for you here. Once you can watch the beautiful game with a wider perspective than through the lens of a parent you chance becoming Soccerfan. Watch all the games in Florida as a fan of the game and still cheer on your son and his mates.
Four words: “Release the Red Dragon!!!!”
As I previously stated, “The Red Dragon” is easy to shut down. Once he is off his game, Moody will get stomped. He’s their only player
MBI/NIU in the final. Let’s just be honest…there is really no point in
arguing about the seeding cuz you’re gonna get shlacked by one of these
two teams anyways.
tru dat…true dat
Manhattan Ohio final. Moody and Northland are going to choke
Persson? Netz? Choke?
*Perssons..get it right..there are two!
True but only one of them in the best player in the country at this level….
Maybe Northland won’t choke, but Persson and his brother are easy to shut down. Once the “Red Dragon” gets shut down, the whole team gets shut down
The truth is that nearly everything Soccerdad has said on this site has been irrational, incendiary, reckless, and unsubstantiated. But I truly love him for it because he’s making it fun for the Moody fans and entertaining for the rest. The truth is that the Red Dragon and his brother are easy enough to shut down, but the tiny fact that escapes Soccerdad is that nobody in this division has the personnel to do it. The truth is that the Red Dragon is good, but he wouldn’t be half the player he is without the whole amazing Moody team behind him. In the Regional Championship game, NIU made the fatal error articulated by Soccerdad to commit extra players to “shut him down” but got bit by the combinations of Cole, Supe, Rust, Montesinos, Zebell, and Villanueva, each of them incredible and dangerous players in their own right. One striking illustration of their [not so irrational] fear of the Red Dragon was when Supe, who has scored on NIU in nearly every game in remembrance, beat his man at midfield and dribbled to the keeper unopposed and scored. NIU’s left back had time to slide over to challenge Supe, but refused to leave the Red Dragon to do so, thereby leaving the NIU keeper to his own, and in this instance, inadequate, devices. The truth is that if you shut down the Red Dragon, the rest of the team will burn you, so pick your potion! Ironically, the Red Dragon did break free and score on an absolutely brilliant back heel assist from Machonga, which means he still outscored the entire NIU team, though he only accounted for 20% of the game’s goals. But if the truth be told, the unsung heroes of the match were the members of Moody’s stifling defense who pitched a perfect shutout: Pattison, Persson, Schnepp, Machonga, and McFarland (was he ever a beast!). As for the “other Persson,” he was quietly shutting down every NIU player in his vicinity while they were struggling to shut down his brother at the other end. And don’t forget the members of the coaching staff, who installed a stellar game plan.
The truth is that NIU is an awesome force because they are big, fast, physical, and well coached. I tremble for the teams that have to face their wrath in the first two rounds at Nationals. If they happen to meet Moody in the finals, it will certainly be a match worth coughing up $5 for!
I wouldn’t say one is better than the other…one is just better known..scoring goals doesn’t make somebody the best in the country, just good at his position..one gets stats, and therefore recognition…many other people on the Moody team (and other teams) are great players!! they just don’t get recognition because they are stuck in a different position that doesn’t allow it..
It’s pretty obvious, if you have seen Moody play, that Jacob is the better player. No doubt about that
The Mid-West is so overrated!
not this year…
EVERY Year!
well…northland beat providence 5-1, manhattan 2-0, and ohio 6-1 already…so i would say moody and northland are definitely not overrated this year.
hahahahahaha that’s a good one!! Midwest outscored their opponents 21-0 there’s the shlacking we’ve been talking about!
Northland and Moody are in the final. Everybody else just shut up cuz you’re gonna get shlacked by one of these two teams anyways.
And it’s kind of a bummer cuz most of the games just won’t be that exciting.
why is it those with the silliest opinions are always the loudest? The games are always good minus a blowout here or there… didn’t your mother teach you manners.
well…now my silly opinion equals fact. BOOM!
(To seriously ) it seems you know lil to no soccer and you assume that mbi and niu are in the final already … Before they even played their quarterfinal matches .. Or one of the two .. You could tell the future … Wrong !! Or you are a sad player fan or dad from any of these 2 teams and you’re trying to phsych yourself Ito thinking that you’re team will make it lol I recommend you go to Florida and watch the upsets …
Not to say I told you so or anything, but…I told you so. And when I said shlacked, I meant they would no-doubt-in-my-mind shlack the other teams. Neither team was scored on and they scored a combined 21 goals. I didn’t need a computer or psychic abilities to tell me the games would be lop-sided.
Guess there was no surprise surprise there!
Are these games all being streamed online again???
Keepa,, yes but here is the bad news! The mcgee’s did this last year and in my opinion did a great job!! As i understood they did this on donations from schools so people who couldn’t be in fla could still watch and cheer for their schools, once again my hats off to Trent and Cole for this. I guess the NCCAA had their own thoughts, what ever the reason they are now teaming up with a fund raising group to show the games at $5 per game, you can go to the NCCAA web site and get this info.. personally I am very disappointed as I for one enjoyed CCSN covrerage
Thanks for the kind words! I need to say that the NCCAA supported us through-and-through. We are actually the ones that choose not to broadcast this year. With Trent moving on, and I having a full time pastor job… the website had to take a big step back with a lack of funds and manpower.
reguardless you guys did a class act and are missed
Thank you VERY much.
Andy Schnepp is not only going to be an all american he will be a legend in the nccaa! Andy Schnepp for President!
Who is Andy Schnepp?
Speaking of knowing nothing about soccer! If you don’t know Schnepp, you certainly don’t deserve to have “soccer” as part of your nickname!
Reminds me of an old proverb flying all around Massachusetts:
No Schnepp, No Soccer.
Know Schnepp, Know Soccer.
You’re absolutely right. The NCCAA Div. 2 is the pinnacle of soccer in America. Actually, it might be the best soccer in the world. I’ll probably stop watching Champions’ League now because it just isn’t very good.
i agree Andy Schnepp is a boss i would vote for him as long as his vice president is CHONGA and his campaign manager is Ryan the beast Pattison
