Men’s Soccer: Game of the Week (61.19% of the Season Completed)

Northland International University will be taking on Ohio Christian University in a rematch of last years controversial semi-final match. NIU won that game, and I don’t think we should rehash that whole debacle, but let’s just say… both sides know something went wrong in that match. Either way, here we are, and Ohio is looking for redemption. Let’s break the match down by team, and then look at the computer’s line for the game:

Northland International University – The computer thinks this is the number one team in the country. They have a high-powered attack, and a solid defense. NIU doesn’t have many holes, but as we have seen in the Moody game, they can have lapses of concentration.

Ohio Christian University – Ohio has really been flying way under the radar. That sounds weird, but people wrote them off a bit since that Moody game. The thing is… they only lost that game by a goal! The computer has them ranked #4 in the country. They have been rocketing up the rankings lately. Here is the big question for Ohio, they are allowing an adjusted 1.09 goals per game, they can score goals but can this team’s defense start locking teams down?

Computer Prediction:

Week 5 Score Win Exp Excitement Rating
Northland International University 3 62.75% 12.00
Ohio Christian University 2 37.25% 12.00
24.00

Note:

  1. Excitement rating is pretty high. Go watch the game!
  2. NIU is a goal favorite to win, but a 62% win expectancy is pretty high.
  3. The computer thinks this could be a shoot out. Usually the computer predicts 1-0 or 1-1 games. A scoreline of 3-2 is pretty strange to see from the computer predictions.
