Dear Coaches… never mind… i know you dont know anything about the teams you vote for.
Love
Someone who would be ashamed if i voted in that pool
Just for the record I vote in that poll and I am not ashamed in any way. If you have some insight that would be helpful please feel free to let me know.
Shawn,
Perhaps you could share with us why you voted the way you did. I’m not saying it was good or bad because frankly, I know very, very little about teams, especially outside the MW Region. Maybe you could share your thoughts?
Im a little confused on 4 through 10 myself.
Just curious. How does regional standings go into play in the rankings. For example, I believe that both Hillsdale and Manhattan are undefeated in their regions and each have only 1 NCCAA II loss, against each other. Each have records better than most above them. Why are they ranked so low?
I just looked at that and I see Hillsdale lost to Manhattan by 5 and then turned around and beat them by 11 so that is a good example.
Julius the reason they are so low prosy is because of who they r playing outside of the nccaa, Kuyper college for example has a 13-11 record but only ha one loss against an nccaa team, out of the conference they r playing a lot really good teams so that’s y they r we’re they r in the rankings
5 of Hillsdale’s 6 losses have come against NAIA or NCCAA I teams, all of which are scholarship schools. They also played 4 NCAA II teams during their exhibition season. I would say that their none conference schedule is as tough as most. I’m not saying that they deserve to be ranked higher just because of their record, but was just wondering to what degree NCCAA II wins and loses play into the the overall rating. They are 15-1 vs these schools.
The way the voting is done in NCCAA II Men’s Basketball is each Region Sport Chair submits his regions rankings to all of the other region chairs every Monday. In the region rankings each team is assigned a letter (A= Top 5, B= Top 10, C= Top 15, D= Top 20 & E= Not Ranked). After all regions have submitted their region rankings they are compiled and each Region Chair then votes on the top 20. Obviously this a little more difficult because you haven’t seen everyone, however that is why we ask the region chairs for their specific input. I pay attention to scores between NCCAA II schools, while losses to upper division schools are taken with a grain of salt, because a loss doesn’t necessarily mean that a team isn’t very good. So I don’t think you could just look at someone’s record and determine if they are a top ten team. I believe that you need to have seen their schedule and their results against other NCCAA II schools. Are we exact on our rankings, probably not, but I believe that our committee has done a solid job on the rankings. I hope that gives some insight into the process.
There is no ranking process that is perfect. Never will be because all teams don’t get to play many games outside their own region and are not seen by may others, therefore its hard to determine where they might fit into the overall rating. I don’t envy anyone that has to make out these rankings, especially if it will eventually lead to determining the seeding of the National Tournament. I was just trying to get an insight into the process.
