NOt a whole lot of talk about women’s basketball this year. Not too much excitemnt is probably the reason why. I want to ask the nation a few questions:
KCU is steam rolling the league this year. Will anyone beat them?
Didn’t VF beat both Grace bible and NCU? Why are they not ranked higher than thos two teams.
Whatever happened to Titan Chuma? she was all over this site last season.
Is the Sikorski girl that good? Scoring over 2,000 points would suggest so right!
Sikorski’s stats for the last three games:
24 pts – 18 rebs vs Kuyper
31 pts – 25 rebs vs Northland
21 pts – 7 rebs vs Moody
She is FOR REAL
enough said!
Titan decided to get married, took 24 hour this past fall and graduated in Dec so she could fulfill her dream to go to law school. We at Dallas Christian have missed her but we have Jessalyn Flowers who seems to be taking up the slack. SHE’S A SOPHOMORE and got married over the summer also. She was Jessalyn Smith last year and ranked right behind Titan in both blocks and rebounds.
As far as stats go, in a game against Crowley’s Ridge, Jessalyn Tied an all=time women’s record for most blocked shots in a single game. She tied Baylor’s Britney Griner with 14. Jessalyn is 5’9″. She has had one game this past month with 28 points, 25 rebounds and 8 blocked shots. Last night, 2/14/2012 she had 19 points, 16 rebounds and 6 blocks against Hillsdale FW Baptist.
After seeing quite a few of the ranked and receiving votes teams this season, I have similar questions. No question VF should be ranked. I think NCU beat Trinity as well, but Trinity beat VF at the AGCU tourney in Minn a couple of weeks back. So that makes it difficult to sort out. The VF win over Grace was back at the beginning of the season, and I’m sure voters go by “what have you done for me lately.”
Sikorski is legit. A real national PoY candidate. Anxious to see if she can carry Grace into a competitive game with MBBC if they face off in the regional tournament. MBBC has lots of weapons, and the new post is fitting in real well. Frees Delozier up to slash and use her athleticism.
Otherwise, the consensus is that it’s KCU’s to lose again this year. The tournament should be fun!
I understand “what have you done for me lately”. I tried to look at some of these top ten teams and the only thing I could find was Grace Bible beat Northland by 8 and a week before that VF beat Northland by 58! BUt Trinity and NCU also beat Northland too by more than 8 so I can see how it would be tough to sort this out.
If Grace is playing as well as the polls suggest, then the GBC MBBC game will be good. On a side note It seems like Sikorski is legit. I hope she is a candidate for POY!
KCU is still undefeated. Do you know if they would be the only undefeated team in NCCAA history? That would be a HUGE accomplishment if so.
KCU finishing undefeated would definitely be historic. Obviously a few weeks to go before it’s a strong consideration, but they have a loaded team.
From my understanding, Northland played first few games this semester without a full team, so don’t know if it is worthwhile to compare results of the games you mentioned. Not sure, but that’s the word on the street.
In looking at the box score from the earlier MBBC 10 point win at Grace in December, MBBC played without their new post, Peterson and still won. She’s a difference-maker inside, so perhaps a Grace-MBBC championship game wouldn’t be as compelling as first glance. But then again, most wouldn’t have thought Kuyper-Grace guys would be as historic before Tuesday night either!
Seems BBC (PA) could be the wild card – much like soccer. How good are they? Anyone know?
Laci Peterson is undeniably the best center in the MW Region. While she may not have put up some of the outstanding numbers that Sikorski has, MBBC has a much deeper bench, and Coach Mo will regularly sit his starters in games once he feels they have it under control. Also, there have been a few occasions in which the girls have had 3 games in a week and in order to be able to compete in the NAC (their D3 conference), they have to be fresh. Furthermore, the girls just picked up their 5th NAC win, most in school history with several winable games still left on the schedule before the MW Regional tournament. So they are playing very competitive ball right now. You never want to overlook anyone but I think they should lock up the MW Region pretty easily.
Also during a stretch of 3 away NAC games in which Natha went 2-1, Peterson averaged 17 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 6.7 blocks.
My last thought. KCU is definitely the team to beat, but I think (somewhat biasedly, I admit) that MBBC could give them a good run. They are better this year than last year and remember, they led KCU in the championship game before KCU pulled away for the win. Should be a great tournament!
“Undeniably” is a little strong. I agree you can’t base it on stats alone, but Sikorski deserves some credit for going out and playing nearly 40 minutes every night. Both are outstanding (along with Jacqui Mitchell from Moody), giving the Midwest region three outstanding low-post players. I think Peterson provides an additional contribution to MBBC by allowing Delozier to play the 4, creating mismatches with her quickness and athleticism. MBBC is loaded for sure, but I would give a slight edge to Sikorski in the battle of low posts.
MBBC has given KCU a great run in recent history, and probably should have won a game or two. But this KCU team is improved as well. Coach Mo will have to be bring his coaching and strategy A-game to cut down the nets in Ohio.
As you said, it should be a great tournament.
Also why isn’t the central Region getting more respect when the team currently in 3rd place in the Central beat the then #5 team in the nation, who is still ranked #6?
Which team are you talking about?
I’m talking about Manhattan Christian College who is curently 0-3 in the Central Region with both losses to CCCB and its loss to Grace University all being by double digits. Who then went out and beat #5 Hillsdale.
MCC played Grace U reecently. How was that game?
Split Grace beat MCC by 17 at home and lost to MCC by 20 on the road. So basically the usual
When, when, when will our Christian colleges realize that you need to invest some of their resources into full-time coaches. I know it is financially difficult, but if they improved their sports programs, they will grow their schools. Students want to go to schools with great athletic programs and more and more of us are playing sports…..
Great point. It is tough when there are so few students who attend these colleges. God bless those colleges with full time coaches and hope that others will follow that trend!
It is true alot of the programs that our flouring in the NCCAA are based on the programs that have invested heavily in seeing their Athletics grow. They are putting in the time and effort that helps to grows Athletics. Kentucky Christian women’s basketball is what it is because of the time and energy that has been built into a program. They did not get good overnight. Now there are women’s basketball players that want to play for Arnett and that progam. Other schools are starting to buy in and see what it takes to win at this level
Kcu probably won’t go undefeated.. If they do… They’ll have beaten 12 NAIA teams… they would finish 3rd in the mideast… Mens bracket
Blevins, they could beat a certain men’s team in the Mid-East from the state of West Virginia….that’s for sure!
KCU Women did finally lose this past weekend, at Midway. Looking at their schedule, I think they will lose at least two more times in the regular season….at IUSE and at Pikeville, a place that they have never won. But it’s still been a historic year for Ron Arnett and the Lady Knights–as good as KCU has been over the years, they had never enjoyed an undefeated 1st semester. After consecutive 21-win seasons in 2010 and 2011, the Lady Knights are on pace for a 30-win season in 2012….according to my records, it would be Arnett’s 5th 30-win season (best record was 35-3 in 2004).
That’s The Scoop With Coop!

the bigger question is what is going on in Phoenixville?…Valley Forge was ranked 4th I believe in the rankings at the start of the season…I believe this shows that East Region is better than before…The Patriots still have some key pieces from last year team including two time All American Reich..it is going to be an interesting East Region tournament
VFCC is a shadow of its former self. The team has lost too much and with the school putting the reins on the commitment of the coach to this team, the team is in total disarray! You cannot improve each year and go forward in a program, by resting on last years work. Colleges need to make strong commitments to their teams and players, so that reputations can be built and maintained.
